Universal Links on Human Rights Sculpture

 Dublin

The Universal Links on Human Rights Sculpture was commissioned by Amnesty International in 1995 and designed by Irish artist Tony O’Malley. The striking spherical shape of the piece, upon closer examination, is made of a series of welded and interlinked bars and chains. In the centre, and almost obscured by its cage, is an eternal flame powered by natural gas.

The flame represents all prisoners of conscience currently in gaols around the world, denoted by the spherical cage.

The sculpture sits at the junction of Amiens Street and Memorial Road, not far from Connolly Railway Station.
