Tarbert Bridewell Courthouse & Jail Museum

Understand Irish history through Tarbert Bridewell Courthouse & Jail Museum’s life size re-enactments and audio visual experience. Experience the numerous tales of hardship, suffering and loss. Explore the jail cells of Tarbert where people slept and the courthouse where they underwent trial.

Visitors will meet the accused, share his anguish and witness the rough justice of Ireland in the 1830’s. They will see the exercise yard, keeper’s quarters and the courtroom with its depiction of the harsh voice of the judiciary handing down the sentence to the accused.

As well as life sized figures, you can now be immersed in the story through audio and video storytelling. There is also a room devoted to Charles McCreevy, a renowned poet and writer who was born in Tarbert, where you can sit down and watch a video on his life.

Tarbert Bridewell Courthouse & Jail Museum offers a coffee shop, gift shop and tourist information point. Guided tours are available for groups.
